In December 1966, a charred body of a woman was discovered. On the ground were found the charred remains of John Irving Bentley, a 92-year-old retired woman.
The fire of mysterious origin charred the woman, all that remains of her and only the lower part of her right leg with the slipper still on her foot. The rest of her body was reduced to a pile of ashes in the basement below the house.
